According to broiler trader Nafees, “The fall in price is because of the poor sale after the alleged outbreak of bird flu in India.”
Meanwhile, some big hotels and restaurants have struck off chicken dishes from their menu. “We will only serve chicken when asked by our customers. From our side, we would not like to offer anything like chicken. For non-veg lovers, we have added more fish and mutton items on the menu,” said the manager of a famous hotel.
“The supplies for poultry products have gone down both at retail and wholesale level in the city. The owners of hotels and restaurants on their part have also started monitoring the situation closely,” Rajeshwar Agarwal, Secretary General of Lucknow Hotel and Restaurant Association, told HT Live.
He said within 24 hours, the Association has plans of launching an awareness campaign that poultry products in the city are safe for consumption and there is no cause for panic among the consumers.
The LMC Health Department has also decided to carry out special cleaning drives near broiler and meat shops in the city. It is to prevent the outbreak of any other epidemic disease among chicken livestock.
According to Chief Veterinary officer, Dr AP Singh, the LMC is taking every step to prevent outbreak of bird flu.
