BSNL to reduce STD tariffs

In a bonanza for its subscribers across the country, state-owned BSNL is likely to reduce domestic long distance (STD) tariffs.

BSNL's decsion comes close on heels of MTNL making a call between Delhi-Mumbai local.

Asked whether BSNL would also make calls between two circles as local, a senior official refused to comment but confirmed that there would be substantial reduction in STD tariffs.

Sources said a call tariffs between two circles (from one state to another) could be made local while call tariffs within the circle remaining unchanged.

BSNL sources also said monthly rental may not be changed. New tariffs are likely to be implemented around the festival of Diwali.

BSNL officials refused to give details about timing for implementing new tariffs.
