BU team qualifies for national football meet

BARKATULLAH UNIVERSITY qualified for the all-India inter-university football tournament beating Pune 1-0 in the West Zone inter-university football tournament being organised by Vikram University, Ujjain on Sunday.

BU, which was a qualifier in the all-India football tournament in 2005, got direct entry into the quarterfinal. Both BU and Pune lost several opportunities to score goals. The first half ended with the scoreboard reading 0-0. BU finally won the fixture by a solitary goal in the 68th minute. It came off the boot of Jitin Singh.

In all, 40 universities of West Zone are participating in the tournament. The All-India Inter-University Tournament will be played in West Bengal later this year. BU Physical Education Department Director Dr Akhilesh Sharma and others have congratulated the team on their performance.
