"The budget offers nothing for common people. They are feeling cheated," Mayawati told mediapersons in Lucknow at her office in the state assembly.

She said the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government's budget has failed to come up with any strong measure to contain the recession. "Moreover, on the pretext of meltdown, the government has also tried to cover its failure related to various fronts," she alleged.

The chief minister accused the union government of adopting a lackadaisical attitude over the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA). "The government is just not serious about NREGA and is yet to implement the scheme in a true sense," said Mayawati.
