By-poll preparations reviewed

CHIEF ELECTION Officer of Uttar Pradesh AK Vishnoi today in a meeting of district officials reviewed the by-election preparations in Rae Bareli. He instructed the officials to enforce the code of conduct strictly and ensure fair by-election.

He said no slackness by the officers at any stage would be tolerated and stern action would be taken against the erring officials.

District returning officer Jitendra Kumar apprised the election secretary with the preparations done so far for the Rae Bareli by-election. The DRO said the first phase of training for election personnel had been completed in three steps.

As many as 1279 polling parties were constituted in the district out of which 142 parties had been kept in reserve.

Required number of heavy and light vehicles had been acquired. The DRO said 319 electronic voting machines were already available in addition to 1500 EVMs requisitioned from Lucknow. The machines had been examined and repaired, he added.

Election observers PC Dheeman, HL Naik and Ashish Kundra were present in the meeting.
