Convenor of the ‘Jal Yatra’ Sunit Singh said the objective of the campaign was to identify space of water resources and liberate it from clutches of land grabbers, to arouse consciousness among people to rejuvenate these newly acquired resources and compile traditional knowledge in water harvesting.

He said that the aim was to link scientific and technical institutions with people and their skills in water management and create corresponding relation between government programmes and peoples’ actions.

“Through the move, we plan to encourage school children to participate in these activities, and prepare a background to generate a joint movement by people and institutions for water harvesting,” he said.

The journey shall be undertaken in three phases. “Phase-I will be from April 8-11 at Shankagarh Block, Phase-II will be from April 21-23 at Meja block and the IIIrd phase will take place between April 25-27 at Koraon Block. The Jal Yatra will begin at 10 am on April 8 at Beharia village. Inhabitants of rural areas have been requested to participate in this march as per their convenience. We need to remember that once the thirst of the earth is satiated, nothing can stop the progress of a region,” he said.
