Canada's SNK to fill vacancies with NRIs

Tamil Nadu's Overseas Manpower Corp has signed a pact with Canada's SNK to fill 3,000 vacancies.

The Overseas Manpower Corp (OMC), a Tamil Nadu government undertaking, has signed a pact with Canada's SNK International Ltd to supply it skilled workforce to fill 3,000 vacancies.

"OMC has to send the first batch of 100 skilled workers to Canada by April," said OMC Managing Director S. Natarajan here Thursday.

OMC signed the memorandum of understanding with the company based in Calgary, Alberta, on Jan 24.

Graduates of vocational colleges and diploma holders with 10 years of work experience below the age of 40 had the best of chance for overseas employment, the company said. Welders and fitters could earn Rs.100,000 a month in Canada.

"As much as 40 percent of the jobs are for electricians and welders," Natarajan said.

"The selected candidates have to pass a written test. They should also be physically fit to live in the harsh climatic conditions. The workers can apply for citizenship after two years," he said.
