CBI moves HC to drop Chavan from Adarsh scam

The CBI plea is likely to come up for hearing on Thursday.

The CBI move came a day the former Maharashtra CM filed his nomination papers from Nanded constituency on Wednesday, prompting attacks from the BJP.

Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley said the former CM got off the hook in the Adarsh case after Maharashtra Governor turned down the CBI’s request to seek prosecution sanction.

“This was a politically motivated decision to save the declining fortunes of the Congress Party in Maharashtra,” he said, broadening his attack to hit out at Himachal chief minister Vir Bhadra Singh – who is being probed by the CBI – as well.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi, however, brushed aside the controversy, saying there was no legal bar on Chavan contesting elections.
