Whereas the Indian garlic is reportedly available at Rs 54 per kg, the Chinese one is fetching a price of Rs 48-50 per kg only.
While the Indian garlic had hit the neighbouring country’s market in mid-October, as part of the Pakistan government's bid to stabilise prices through imports from India, the Chinese garlic is comparatively a new phenomenon.
When the Indian imports had arrived in Pakistan, the price of the home grown garlic was as high as Rs 72 per kg, said a report in The Nation.
According to the paper, after witnessing an inflationary trend in the last two months of the last year, the prices of other vegetables, including potatoes, tomatoes and onions, too have stabilised.
