EVEN AS the Congress managed to demonstrate its show of strength at Monday's rally, chinks in the party ranks were visible with one section staying away from the rally.

The show of strength was solely of local MP Dr Rajesh Mishra, who mobilised the support of workers through the newly appointed district and city party chiefs.
Though the rallies the party organised in different parts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh, including Chandauli, Gazipur, Gorakhpur etc, were due to the support of lesser known political outfits like Bharatiya Samaj Party and Samanta Party, Monday's rally at Varanasi was purely of Congress workers.
As former district president of Congress, Satish Chobey and Varanasi city president Vijay Shanker Mehta, recently replacing with the nominees of the local MP, the ousted leaders and their mentors preferred to stay away at today's rally.
It may be mentioned that both the former district and city presidents of Congress were affiliated with Rajeshpati Tripathi group. Only one member of this camp, who was recently inducted as general secretary of UPCC, was seen on the dias.
"Without support of this strong camp, the rally's success gives credence to the fact that there are hard-core activists of Congress party even when the party has been out of power from the last over 15 years”, a political analysist commented.
