Cairns is one of the more flamboyant characters in the New Zealand side. But the past few seasons a series of injuries and operations have left him stranded many a time.

When in peak form, Cairns is the most dangerous of all the Black Caps! A world-class all-rounder decided to bid goodbye to Test cricket and this will be his last appearance in the five-day game.

Cairns became only the sixth player in history to achieve 3000 runs and 200 Test wickets as an all-rounder.

He will continue to play in the shorter version of the game which is a big relief for New Zealand as he has been a key factor in some of his teams conquest.
