Chronology of events leading to President's rule
Following is the chronology of events leading to imposition of President's Rule in Bihar.
February 27: Elections for 13th state assembly throw up a Hung house.
February 28: Paswan sends missive to Governor Buta Singh, saying he will not support either RJD or BJP. Chief Minister Rabri Devi resigns, as RJD does not get majority.
March 1: Rabri Devi elected RJD legislature party leader, RJD chief Lalu Prasad says she will stake claim to form the government.
NDA urges Governor not to invite RJD.
March 2: Congress extends support to RJD as Lalu Prasad claims he had the numbers. Paswan says on return from Delhi after meeting Congress President Sonia Gandhi that the 29-member LJP will vote against RJD and NDA.
March 3: Paswan meets Governor, claims support of 7 MLAs of CPI-ML, four of Samajwadi Party and three of CPI.
March 4: Lalu Prasad reiterates RJD will stake claim but no offer comes from Raj Bhavan.
March 5: Rabri Devi stakes claim and NDA delegation meets Buta Singh urging him not to invite RJD as it does not have the numbers.
March 6: Paswan meets Governor for second time, says he sticks to his earlier stand of not supporting RJD or NDA.
Term of 12th assembly expires and Governor recommends Central rule.
March 7: Union Cabinet recommends Central rule in Bihar.
