Water and electricity supply could not be made functional, despite Herculean efforts made by the respective departments, in major parts of the city. The cyclone with a wind speed of about 140 km per hour wreaked havoc on the supply of two necessities of life besides uprooting more than 60 trees in the city areas alone.

Citizens reeled under the severe drinking water crisis on Tuesday. Long queues were seen on hand pumps. Following disruption in power supply, the tube-wells, supplying potable water to the city, could not function.

On being contacted the Jal Sansthan officials said unless they got power supply, the tube-wells could not be operated by them. The Jal Sansthan had failed in providing water tankers for the citizens. Meanwhile citizens urged the district administration to make the mobile generators of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation available to tube-wells for at least two hours in rotation so that they could get drinking water supply.

The damage caused by the storm to the power system will take at least a week to repair, said the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation officials here on Tuesday.

The collapse of the electric poles and wires yesterday has affected electricity supply in entire city.

Traffic on several busy roads like Nyaya Marg, Kanpur Road, Stanely Road , MG Marg and SN Marg remained affected for many hours following uprooting of big trees . Entire city plunged into darkness in wake of snapping of power cables and damage to poles. One BSNL tower in Rajrooppur area tumbled down damaging the nearby house. Fixed phones in many areas including Muthiganj, Allahpur, Kydganj, Ashok Nagar and Mumfordganj went out of order due to mighty storm .

A large number of people had to change their routes while entering from Phaphamau side to city when the electric poles on Chandrashekhar Azad bridge twisted and dangled on the road. Many of them had no option other than to use Old Curzon bridge to reach city. Meanwhile Nagar Nigam teams swung into action for removing fallen trees from roads.

The storm has also caused considerable loss to the farmers. Their harvested crops lying on the fields were damaged by rain and wind.

Even the wheat straw, where thrashing operations had been completed, was blown away by the strong winds.

The storm proved damaging for the mango crop too. Meanwhile, storm followed by rain hit the life here on Tuesday too.
