Local runners drew applause from crowd which had gathered along the Indira marathon route here on Sunday morning. The 10-year-old Ramsamujh who belongs to Jasra in trans-Yamuna area was the youngest runner in this year's marathon.

Ramsamujh who was described as Allahabad' Budhiya studies at III standard at Jasra. As he entered into Madan Mohan Malviya stadium he was given a warm welcome by the gathering.
Besides, two locals Shashi Prakash and Shabbo Devi secured fourth in men's and eighth place in women's category in marathon this year. Though the full marathon attracted nearly one thousand runners at sunrise, the event picked up momentum when other participants gathered for the cross country race that was flagged off by UP Sports and Youth Minister RK Chaudhry from Anand Bhawan to the tune of PAC and Police bands here this morning. Dozens of balloons were released in air by the chief guest.
Half a dozen children taking part in cross country got injured when a stampede like situation took place at the beginning of the race. However, situation was soon controlled. Nearly three hundred children took part in two state-level cross country races (boys and girls) organised along with the marathon.
The four podium finishers in the two races got Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 respectively.
Besides, three consolation prizes in both sections of the two races. The marathon passed through for the third time on new route via New Yamuna Bridge, the people of trans-Yamuna area got an opportunity to enjoy the event.
However, the colour spray and other claims made by administration did not seem anywhere en route. Divisional Commissioner RN Tripathi and District Magistrate Amrit Abhijat who were said to be guest at inaugural session were not present this morning.
Several rural youths, who came to know about the marathon through radio and television news came out on roads and boosted the runners' morale. Seven children ran from Anand Bhawan to Girls Hostel on roller skates. They were led by Harsh Gupta ,a national level skater.
