GUN-TOTING private security guards are no longer the most reliable remedy against housebreaking and murders in city homes.
Electronic surveillance and intrusion alarm systems are being increasingly opted for by not only the rich, but also the middle class.
Large corporate houses and banks with their offices here have centralised surveillance systems which regularly scan every nook and corner of an establishment for an intruder.
To start with, the trend among the rich was to hire private detectives, instead of private security agency managers, for not only analyzing the threat perception of a bungalow or a large flat, but also to keep vigil on the house when the owner was away from the city, or had gone out shopping in the evening hours.
“There are more than 100 security agencies in Lucknow which provide guards. Clients who avail themselves of the services of security agencies still aren’t sure a guard posted on their premises has undergone police verification. This lingering doubt led to people purchasing electronic gadgets to safeguard their homes better,” Globe Detective Agency proprietor R K Saxena told HT Lucknow Live.
He said electronic surveillance and anti-intrusion gadgets were no longer the prerogative of the rich.
“A basic device such as a security alarm costs as low as Rs 2,500. It is being installed by many in their homes,” Saxena said.
Mayank Trivedi, an oil merchant with a bungalow in Gomti Nagar, has two dogs at home and has hired security for his premises. He says: “When you are away from the house with your family, electronic security gadgets and dogs can create enough noise to alarm the entire neighbourhood, and not just the guards at my gate. The security gadgets come handy for just anybody.”
The most popular security device in the city is the “Magnetic Sensor”, which is attached to windows and doors of homes. Then, there is a high-end security device such as “Access Control”. There are more sophisticated security alarm systems to make a house entirely intrusion-proof.
“In localities like Mall Avenue, despite being close to the high security zone such as Raj Bhawan, residents are opting for sophisticated security gadgets. The other areas where residents have gone for installation of security devices as the prime safety measure are Gomti Nagar and Kapoorthala. Generally speaking, security devices are in demand in all parts of the city,” Saxena added.
