City is favourite haunt for many filmmakers
NOW, BOLLYWOOD is eyeing the holy city of Kashi. What?s more, even international directors and producers are planning to come here. In the next one-year, at least half-a-dozen directors and producers are going to visit Kashi, the abode of Lord Shiva, for making movies.

In the next one-year, at least half-a-dozen directors and producers are going to visit Kashi, the abode of Lord Shiva, for making movies.
For starters, renowned director and producer Rakesh Mehra will make a movie having well-known names to act in it and the film will be shot in Varanasi and its adjoining areas. The story of this movie will be based on Varanasi. The name of movie has not been disclosed while the film team is likely to visit Varanasi to search for locations for shooting the film.
Similarly, shooting of Ajay Devgan starrer ‘Hula-Bole’ is likely to be held in Varanasi soon. Director of ‘Hula-Bole’ is famous Bollywood director Rajkumar Santoshi.
Shooting of ‘Suryamukhi’ is scheduled to be held in Varanasi besides Goa and Pune.
Renowned actor Madhuri Dixit-Nene is going to star in it. This would be the launching pad for the second phase of her film career. Director ‘Suryamukhi’ is Malyalam director Shaji N Karun and producer is Bobby Bedi.
This proposed movie is based on the life of legendary painter Raja Ravi Verma.
An NRI, Asil Rai, living in Paris is also likely to shoot his motion picture here apart from Lucknow, Rampur and Bhadohi. Director Pradeep Sarkar, of ‘Parineeta’ fame, will also visit Varanasi to select locations for his movie. Renowned singer, Kumar Shanu is also contemplating to shoot his two music albums here in Varanasi.
Besides, a Hollywood movie starring Goldie Hawn is also in pipeline.
The film team had already selected the locations for shooting here in Varanasi last year. Recently, family members of Goldie Hawn were here in Varanasi for the purpose.
Local line producer, Ratishankar Tripathi said renowned film names visiting Varanasi to select locations for shooting of their motion pictures reflected the changing attitudes of cine goers.
He said several Bollywood movies like ‘Ghatak’, ‘Bunty aur Babli’, ‘Dharm’, ‘Benaras’, ‘Indra’ were all shot in Varanasi.
