‘City needs to revamp waste management strategy’

The group talked about the upcoming construction and demolition waste recycling plant, the functioning of the Bandhwari plant, waste segregation at the local level, technology for waste work and use of better contracting systems.

CR Kharsan, deputy municipal commissioner of Ahmadabad Municipal Corporation, cited the initiatives adopted to make Ahmadabad a zero-waste city.
“For Gurgaon to become a sustainable city, it must have an efficient waste management strategy. It needs to identify and designate waste disposal sites and haul up the waste management process,” said Shubhra Puri, founder director of Gurgaon First.

Lt-gen Rajender Singh, CEO of DLF Foundation, said electrical and electronic equipment containing complex hazardous substances presented the fastest-growing challenge.
