Classical renditions cast a spell

EMINENT CLASSICAL artistes kept the audience spellbound through their splendid performances during the first day of the four-day centennial celebrations of Kashi Sangeet Samaj at Vrindavan Garden in Kabir Chaura here on Thursday evening.

EMINENT CLASSICAL artistes kept the audience spellbound through their splendid performances during the first day of the four-day centennial celebrations of Kashi Sangeet Samaj at Vrindavan Garden in Kabir Chaura here on Thursday evening.

The concert started with the Samved Gayan of Pt Pundalik Krishna Bhagwad.

Shehnai maestro Ustad Fateh Ali Khan captivated the audience by rendering raag Puriya Dhanashri and Chaiti. Nand Kishore Mishra and Arun Asthana accompanied him on tabla and harmonium while Pyare Hussain provided accompaniment on flute.

Later, Lata Godse of Pune delineated raag Bihag and Kaushik Kanhra. The compositions that she rendered included ‘Pyari Paag Hole’, ‘Paani Na Bheji’, ‘So Jaan Re’, ‘Dhanya Dhanya Bhaag Jage Mere Aaj’ ‘Kahe Karat Mose’ and ‘Bhawani Dayani’. Ashok Jha and Ishwarlal Mishra accompanied her on harmonium and tabla respectively.

Chief priest of Gopal Mandir Goswami Shyam Manohar Maharaj also blessed the audience and unveiled the portraits of Purushottam Das Rastogi and Govardhan Prasad. An atmosphere of traditional ‘Gulab Badi’ was also evident in the concert as the audience were attired in dhoti-kurta and topi. Rose petals and rose water were sprinkled on the audience. Coordinator KK Rastogi welcomed the guests.
