TAKING A serious view of the absence of the engineering staff from the special cleanliness drive launched by him, Mayor Dinesh Sharma pulled up the LMC chief engineer and issued a show-cause notice to over half-a-dozen others for dereliction of duty.

The erring officials include executive engineer Atar Singh, assistant engineer Vishnu Singh, junior engineer RK Tiwari (Zone-II) and garden superintendent Ganga Ram Gautam etc, who have been asked to explain their conduct within two days. “You are very well aware of the Mayor’s inspection programme. Yet none of you were present when the Mayor visited these localities. Please explain the reason for your absence within two days failing which I have been directed by the Mayor to initiate action against you,” states the notice issued by additional municipal commissioner AC Sinha.

Mayor Sharma, who reached LMC headquarters at around 9.45 am was shocked to see the poor attendance of the employees as well as his own staff, who too were found absent. “Around 60 per cent of the LMC employees were yet to report for duty. The Mayor waited till 10 am. Majority of the staff checked in between 10.30 am and 11 am,” said an LMC official. Piqued over the slothfulness of the employees, Sharma issued a warning that a day’s salary would henceforth be deducted of all those including his own personal staff who did not mark their attendance in time. The attendance register would be submitted to a senior official by 10.15 am to ensure that those who do not report for duty on time are brought to book.

Sharma set out on his daily inspection tour on Monday from Lal Bahadur Shastri ward from where he moved towards the Aishbagh locality where he himself resides. While the area’s corporators and Jal Sansthan officials were present on the spot, the garden superintendent and engineering staff of the zone were absent. Serving a warning to the erring officials, the Mayor has issued instructions that the zonal in-charge, executive engineer and the health officer would accompany him on all such visits in future.
