THE CHIEF Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said here today that the law enacted on total ban on the slaughter of bovine animals would be strictly implemented in the state.
MLA Archana Chitnis, along with a delegation of citizens and office-bearers from Burhanpur, offered a floral welcome and greeted the Chief Minister. This was in celebration of the Supreme Court’s complete dismissal of petitions filed by butchers of the state against total ban on slaughter of cows and oxen as it would affect their livelihood. The plan for total ban had been initiated by Madhya Pradesh Gauvansh Vadh Pratishedh Adhiniyam 2004.
The Chief Minister welcomed the stand of the Supreme Court and described it as historic. He said that the state government would effectively implement the provisions of the Act, which clearly respected popular feelings, as people respect and worship bovine animals. Referring to Nandi Shala Yojana, he reiterated the state government’s commitment to conservation and protection of bovine animals.
