CMPDC students create ruckus
Teacher accused of sexual harassment
UPSET OVER failure of the college authorities to take action against a teacher accused of sexual harassment by one of their female colleagues, students of CMP Degree College created ruckus on the campus on Tuesday.
Later, the alleged victim also submitted a complaint at the George Town police station in this regard.
The teacher has meanwhile denied all charges.
Trouble started on Tuesday morning after office-bearers of the CMP Degree College Student Union became aware that a BSc-II (Additional Classes) female student of the college has levelled serious charges of sexual harassment against one of the college teachers Dr SK Srivastava a few days back.
After coming to know that the college authorities have failed to act till date despite receiving a formal complaint almost 10 days back, the students gheraoed the proctor, the head of the chemistry department and also damaged furniture of the department.
Shouting anti-college administration slogans, the students demanded immediate action against the teacher accused by the girl and threatened to launch an agitation in this regard.
On being contacted, CMP Degree College Proctor Dr Satyambada Singh said, " I received a complaint by the student of sexual harassment on March 18 who contacted me after she did not receive any response from the HoD concerned. I received the complaint but kept this matter confidential since I wanted to first discuss the matter with the father of the student who was out of station".
Dr SK Srivastava, on his part, vehemently denied the charges and alleged that it was a well-planned plot to malign him. "This is a plot by some of the students and teachers to defame me.
Since I am the president of Shikshak Sangh for last two years and many of my collegaues are unhappy with my work, they have hatched a plot to harm my image.
Some students who have been penalised on charges of cheating in past also supported the plot in retaliation", he said in his defence.
