THE CONCLUDING day of the second international conference on Cognitive Science at Allahabad University?s Centre for Behavioural and Cognitive Science (CBCS) witnessed a keynote address and two scientific sessions on Tuesday. Prof James Georgas, a cross-cultural psychologist, from the University of Athens, Greece, talked on culture and intelligence, and examined the Wahsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Third Edition (WISC-III) from a cross-cultural perspective.

Prof James Georgas, a cross-cultural psychologist, from the University of Athens, Greece, talked on culture and intelligence, and examined the Wahsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Third Edition (WISC-III) from a cross-cultural perspective.
Based on the standard data of 15,999 children from 16 countries, the implications of his findings with regard to cognitive psychology and cross-cultural psychology were also discussed.
The session on ‘Mind and Consciousness’ was chaired by Prof AK Gupta, University of Allahabad. Dr Arnaud Destrebecqz from Universite libre de Bruxelles, Belgique spoke on ‘Time and Conscious Awareness in learning- a graded approach’ while Dr Chhanda Chakraborti from the IIT-Kharagpur spoke on facts, extra-physical facts, and a few ontological questions. Dr Amita Chatterjee from Jadavpur University spoke on self-representation narrative. The session on ‘Cognitive Neuroscience’ was chaired by Prof Elisabetta Ladavas from Centro Studi e Ricerche in Neuroscienze Cognitive, Cesena (CSRNC), Italy.
The speakers of the session were Dr Narayanan Srinivasan (CBCS, University of Allahabad) and Prof Anne Sereno from the University of Texas, Houston, USA.
