Cold wave intensifies in J&K

Cold wave tightened its grip over Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday morning as mercury fell by a few notches in various parts the state due to dry weather and clear skies overnight, the Met office said.

The night temperature in Srinagar fell to 1.6 degrees Celsius today against 2.6 deg C on Wednesday.

Pahalgam in south Kashmir was the coldest place in the valley with a low of minus 2.2 deg C against minus 1.4 degrees C on Wednesday followed by Qazigund and Kokernag at minus 0.2 deg C and minus 1.6 deg C respectively.

Kupwara in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 0.8 deg C as against 0.1 deg C on Wednesday.

The night temperature fell in Jammu region with the city recording a low of 12.9 deg C.

Katra recorded a low of 12.0 deg C followed by Batote at 6.3 deg C, Bhaderwah 3.5 deg C and Banihal at 1.5 deg C.

In Ladakh, Kargil recorded a low of minus 11.4 deg C and Leh recorded a minimum of minus 7.4 degrees C.
