THE STATE Congress Election Committee on Wednesday authorised party president Sonia Gandhi to select candidates for the by-elections in Vidisha Lok Sabha and Bada Malhera Assembly constituencies.
A unanimous resolution to this effect was passed at a meeting of the Election Committee held under the chairmanship of State Congress chief Subhash Yadav at the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) headquarters in Bhopal.
The meeting also endorsed senior party leader Aziz Qureshi’s proposal wherein he urged that Guna MP Jyotiraditya Scindia be consulted on selection of candidate for Vidisha seat since Scindia dynasty is respected a lot in the constituency for the late Madhavrao Scindia’s major contribution in the development of the constituency.
The meeting further recommended that Jyotiraditya be appointed party’s star campaigner for Vidisha constituency. Besides, he should be given charge of campaigning for the party in the next election in MP along with other senior party leaders like Arjun Singh, Digvijay Singh and Kamalnath.
Union Minister of State for Agriculture Kantilal Bhuria, Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Jamuna Devi, Aziz Qureshi, PCC general secretary Narmada Prasad Sharma and NSUI State president Hemant Vagadre also attended the meeting.
