Cong chief to meet Lucknowites en route to Rae Bareli
SONIA GANDHI this time won’t just touch Lucknow and go. During her first visit to Rae Bereli on Tuesday after her resignations, she will spend about two-and-a-half hours in Lucknow in a road show from Amausi Airport to Mohanlalganj where she will be welcomed at more than fifteen points and meet public at six points.
The Pradesh Congress Committee had a meeting on Satruday regarding her visit as it got ‘agreed’ consent from Sonia. The Congress state headquarters at Mall Avenue was agog with activity as meetings were held one after other.
The PCC is preparing to make it a massive show with a motorcade of over 500 buses and cars that will accompany her from Amausi till the border of Rae Bareli.
UPCC president Salman Khursid said: “Through Mr Ashok Gehlot we requested her that whenever she visits Rae Bareli, she just touches Lucknow at Amausi and does not spend any time in Lucknow. And she agreed that this time she will meet people.”
Ashok Bajpai, Zila Congress Committee president of Allahabad who has been made the coordinator for her visit, said: “We had a talk with the two teams of SPG and they have said that all the welcome points will have to be barricaded and the teams agreed that at six points people will be allowed to meet her.
However, it is her wish that in Rae Bareli, there will be no barricading at all and she wants to mingle with people freely.”
Bajpai said that some senior Congress leaders, including Ashok Gehlot, Akhilesh Das and Oscar Farnandes, who will accompany her from Amausi have already reached the city.
Sonia Gandhi will reach Amausi at 8 and will be accorded a grand welcome by Congress leaders and activists on her Lucknow route. The route after Amausi is along Literacy House, Avadh Hospital, Ambedkar Maidan, Telibagh up to Mohanlalganj.
Among prominent Congress leaders attending the preparatory meet were Satyadev Tripathi, Reeta Bahuguna Joshi, Prahlad Dwivedi, Sunita Singh and Renuka Chaudhary.
The meeting was chaired by Salman Khursid and coordinated by Ashok Bajpai.
