As Congress high command declared Fransisco Sardinha as the South Goa candidate, a series of meetings were scheduled on Sunday by the NCP to decide about its candidate from North Goa.
Sources confirmed that former Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Nirmala Sawant, present Congress Minister Manohar Asgaonkar and former Congress minister Jitendra Deshprabhu are in the race to contest from North Goa seat on NCP ticket.
Sawant has already left Congress and is independent now; Asgaonkar and Deshprabhu are reportedly vying for NCP ticket from North.
A crucial meeting is scheduled to be held in the state capital in the evening today, which will discuss all the names, sources said.
Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Subhash Shirodkar, NCP Goa Chief Wilfred de Souza, few NCP and Congress legislators including Pratapsing Rane and Vishwajit Rane are likely to participate in the meeting.
