Congress activists staged a dharna at Townhall crossing and demanded the dismissal of the State government for its alleged failure to check the spread of encephalitis.

They said the government’s inability to tackle encephalitis epidemic had been exposed, adding that it had no moral right to remain in power.

Divisional spokesperson of the Congress Siddharth Priya Srivastava said it was unfortunate that the State government remained unmoved by the plight of encephalitis patients. Unprecedented power cuts aggravated the problem, he added.

Pradesh Congress Committee member Ahmad Faraz said resentment was brewing among the State employees and teachers regarding the demand for merging 50 per cent dearness allowance (DA) with their basic salaries.

Corporator and secretary of the City Congress Committee Subrato Ganguly handed over a five-point memorandum to the district magistrate, to be forwarded to the President of India. It was alleged law and order in the State had collapsed.

Ganguly also alleged that the State government was only interested in the development of Saifai. He demanded the government’s dismissal, as it had failed to instill a sense of security in the people.

Tauqir Alam and Arun Kumar Agrahari said President’s rule should be imposed in the State.
