The Congress made a special reference to the Nithari killings while announcing the decision to withdraw support from the Mulayam Singh Yadav government.

"The Nithari episode has shocked the conscience of the nation. It hurts not only because of inhuman cruelty and perversity of the crime but also because handicapped officers chose to serve their masters and turned a blind eye to the tragedy of parents of those helpless children," said UPCC President Salman Khurshid while announcing withdrawal of support.

"Legitimate public expression of concern and sympathy was greeted by a shower of abuse by the SP leadership," he said adding Centre's committee appointed to probe the issue had submitted its report. The CBI would dig the truth out, he said.
