WORKERS OF the Congress party and the Samajwadi Party are at loggerheads following taking out of the foundation stone laid by the then State Governor Motilal Vora.

The foundation stone was laid for construction of Second Water Works on Karelabagh Water Works campus here.
According to sources, the Samajwadi Party activists, accompanied by city unit president KK Srivastava went on rampage, removing the foundation stone during their tree plantation programme on the Karelabagh Water Works premises on the occasion of the Independence Day.
Later, the Congress workers submitted a memorandum to the District Magistrate and expressed resentment against the act of the Samajwadi Party workers and demanded immediate reinstallation of the foundation stone.
District president of the Youth Congress Mukund Tiwari and city president Vijay Bahadur Singh warned the district administration to ensure reinstallation of the uprooted stone at the same place in a week otherwise they would remove all the foundation stones laid by Samajwadi Party leaders in the city.
It may be mentioned that State Urban Development and Housing Minister Mohammed Azam Khan laid the foundation stone for installation of a 50 MLD water intake at Karelabagh Water Works last week only to strengthen the drinking water infrastructure for the city area.
However, the Congress Party leaders said that the then Governor Motilal Vora laid the stone in 1996 for second water works in presence of then Mayor Dr Rita Bahuguna Joshi during the President's rule in Uttar Pradesh. Even Vora had also released Rs 1 crore for the project.
The Congress leaders lamented that the incident took place in presence of the District Magistrate. Unfortunately, despite lapse of more than 50 hours no action could be taken by the District Magistrate himself. Both leaders alleged that it was an insult to the posts of Governor and Mayor.
The Congress leaders condemned the incident and demanded immediate action against the guilty persons.
