A Congress activist was stabbed following an altercation on a poll related issue at Maski Village in Raichur District of Karnataka triggering tension in the area, police said here today.
The victim who was immediately shifted to a hospital night is stated to be out of danger, police said. Tension gripped the area following the incident last night, putting the police on a high alert.
Meanwhile, police resorted to lathicharge to disperse JD(S) supporters who indulged in stone pelting, injuring an unspecified number of people and damaging seven buses in Kanakapura from where former Prime Minister H D Devegowda is contesting.
Police said the mob was protesting against the Congress accusation that JD(S) was encouraging bogus voting. In another incident reported from Kolar District, some persons forcibly entered two polling stations in Rahamatnagar and destroyed EVMs, forcing the officials to suspend the voting process.
Two cars, including one belonging to former DGP H T Sangliana, the BJP candidate from Bangalore North Lok Sabha constituency, were damaged in Shantinagar here when some persons hurled stones.
In several areas coming under Bangalore North Lok Sabha seat, people were seen protesting against deletion of their names from the voters list.
When they mobbed the polling stations, police pacified them.
In Chamarajpet constituency, from where Chief Minister S M Krishna is contesting, an Election Commission Observer had to face the ire of a group of voters who complained that their names were not in the voters list despite possessing identity cards.
As the observer Nitin Anand touring the constituency came near a polling booth in Karnataka Mahila Hindi Seva Samithi, they surrounded him and said they were not being allowed to vote in spite of having identity cards.
Seeking to pacify them, Anand said some polling stations had been reorganised and told them to go to the right one after verification.
Complaints of names not being in the voters list in spite of having Voters' Identity Cards were heard at some booths in the Bangalore South Lok Sabha constituency.
