As a part of their protest against the grim power and water scenario and poor state of sanitation, the Congress workers staged a demonstration at district headquarters.
The Congress activists were demanding setting up of hand pumps in various localities such as Ramrepur village and Pandeypur ward as the local residents were facing severe water crisis.
The other demands were proper electrification and setting up of adequate sewer system at newly established localities including Vivekananad Nagar Colony, Deo Nagar Colony, Bajrang Nagar, Vishwanath Puram and Pandeypur village, exemption of Varanasi from scheduled and unscheduled powercuts and removal of encroachments from the lands of Lalpur-Anaula drain.
General secretary of the City Congress Committee Ashok Kumar Mishra, who led the demonstration, alleged that reluctant attitude of administration was causing a lot of problems for the local residents. The employees of Nagar Nigam, Jal Sansthan and power department were ignoring the interests of these localities and left the local residents on their own fate.
Sanjay Yadav, a Congress activists, said that local residents were paying all the taxes including house tax, electricity bills, sewage and water tax, to the government but employees of concerned departments were not paying proper attention to these localities. Congress leaders including Kailash Seth, Shakeel Ahmed, Dinesh Rai, Jehangeer Ara, Bhaiya Lal Rajbhar and Hori Lal Patel warned the administration that if the district administration did not consider their demands honestly, the Congress activists would launch a massive agitation.
