UNWILLING TO let go a juicy issue, the Congress today announced that they would move the High Court within a week through a private complaint demanding thorough investigation into the Meherban Singh murder case, so that the involvement of BJP divisional organisational secretary Arvind Menon and other senior BJP leaders in manipulating evidence and protecting the accused is established.

Meherban Singh was murdered by his son Vijendra Singh Bhati, alias Shravan, who used to work at the BJP office full time, and is said to be close to Menon.

Talking to the media here today, City Congress president Ujagar Singh, senior Congress leader Kripa Shankar Shukla and City Congress vice-president K K Mishra said they have all the evidence necessary for nailing Menon, and prove his complicity in the crime. They said they would present all the evidence in the court.

They also welcomed the announcement by the BJP that it would sue Congress party leaders including State Congress president Subhash Yadav and K K Mishra for his statements alleging Menon’s involvement in the murder. The Congress leaders said that things would come out in black and white once the BJP sues them.

Regarding the memorandum they gave to SP Adarsh Katiyar yesterday demanding impartial probe into the mater, the Congress leaders clarified that they have given 72 hours to the police after which they would intensify their agitation.

They said that the mobile phone call details of Arvind Menon, the Vijaynagar CSP and a TI (who is supposed to have stopped Menon’s vehicle in which the body of Meherban Singh was being carried) between February 5 and February 9, and said the frequency and duration of calls between them would be prove that something was wrong, otherwise why would Menon, who refuses to talk to the media, talk to a CSP for that long.

The Congress leaders also threatened that if the police did not investigate the call details, they themselves would present it to the media.

When asked specifically, the Congress leaders said that Menon was present in the BJP office when Meherban Singh Bhati was killed by Shravan. “He (Meherban) must have shouted or screamed when he was being strangled by Shravan, and Menon lives in the office premises itself, so it is impossible that he did not hear it,” said Kripa Shankar Shukla. The leaders also alleged that Menon was present when the body was being shifted in his vehicle.
