Constable Neeraj Kumar joined the Hapur-based gang and helped his police team nab five accused. Police said all the accused were well educated and from “influential families”.

In the first week of March, Kumar got a tip-off that a gang of bike thieves was operating in the area. They target Pulsar-180, Pulsar-220 and Yamaha bikes and later sell the bikes.

“He joined the gang by gaining their confidence on the pretext of buying some racing bikes,” Senior Superintendent of Police Raghubir Lal told HT.

Once Kumar was sure about the modus operandi of the robbers, he informed the police about their hideouts in Hapur on Thursday.

The police conducted raids and recovered 13 racing bikes with prices ranging between Rs 80,000 and over Rs 1 Lakh each. The gang targeted shopping malls in Indirapuram, Noida and Delhi to steal bikes.
