A COP of the special Operation Group (SOG) killed his boss in Etawah on Tuesday night as he was dejected at not being included in the team involved in eliminating the Jagjeevan Parihar gang in the ravines of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

While, constable Uday Pal shot SOG incharge Arvind Chauhan with the police department revolver, a scribe was also critically injured in the indiscriminate firing and was admitted to a hospital in Etawah. A highly placed source in the police department said on May 13, SOG sleuths had a fierce encounter with Jagjeevan Parihar gang in Bhind district in Madhya Pradesh. Uday Pal was in the SOG then but did not take part in the encounter.
As his name did not figure in the post-encounter memo, Uday Pal pleaded that as he was earlier a part of the SOG in every encounter, therefore on humanitarian grounds his name should be included in the team that confronted the Parihar gang.
Despite Pal’s pleas, SOG incharge Arvind Chauhan did not relent. Failing to convince his immediate boss, Uday Pal reportedly met senior cops in Etawah but to no avail.
As every senior official of the police department in Etawah shrugged off the pleas of Uday Pal and admonished him, this further infuriated Uday Pal.
Sources said on Tuesday night around 10.30 pm when Arvind Chauhan was in his room in the police guesthouse in Etawah along with a scribe of the electronic media, Uday Pal reached there and after heated arguments with Chauhan, opened indiscriminate firing, with the result that Chauhan died on the spot and the scribe sustained serious injuries.
Earlier on the same day, Uday Pal had consumed liquor after taking money from some gamblers, though after accepting the money he had released them.
In the night, he went to Chauhan’s room and killed him and fled from the scene.
However, SSP Etawah M Ashok Jain, while talking to Hindustan Times said, “The service record of Uday Pal is tainted, as in his earlier posting in the police lines he had manhandled some cops.” Further commenting on the killing of SOG incharge, Jain said, “To come to any conclusion as of now is difficult as still Uday Pal is absconding, but after preliminary investigations it appears that he had some personal grievances against his boss.”
