The IED, weighing around five kgs and planted in a cut jerrican, was detected by a patrol party of the army along the highway, the spokesman said.

Security has been beefed up all around the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir and security forces have increased random checking of vehicles and intensified patrolling around sensitive areas following intelligence inputs that militants might carry out attacks to disrupt Independence Day celebrations.
