The STF team recovered a map of the chief minister’s residence and a cache of arms and ammunition. Additional Director General
of Police (ADGP) Law and Order, Brij Lal said the landmarks and police barriers marked on the map proves that it was of Five- Kalidas Marg, the official residence of Chief Minister Mayawati. The illustrations on the map were in Urdu.

When asked if the terrorists were planning to target Mayawati, Lal said the police was investigating the case. “The state police had definite information that terror organisations had planned to target VIPs”, he said.

Lal further added that though the police was yet to identify the dead terrorists, it is believed that the two belonged to the terror outfit, as they raised slogans of ‘LeT zindabad’ during the exchange of fire with the STF.

Lal said it was SSP (STF), Amitabh Yash, who got information that terrorists belonging to LeT had entered the city and were planning to carry out major attacks.

“This morning Singh got the information on the LeT operatives who were heading in a Maruti car for Lucknow from Barabanki. Singh along with members of the STF quickly moved to position and launched a search operation on Deva Roa,” he said.

As soon as they were accosted the terrorists, they jumped out of the car and started firing with AK- 47 assault rifles. The police team returned the fire which resulted in the killing of both the terrorists.
