These police personnel were accused of creating disturbance in a meeting of SP activists at Chetna crossing on Tuesday.

According to sources, the SP had convened a meeting at Chetna crossing where a cycle rally, taken out by the frontal organisation of the party, was to be converted into a meeting. The party workers had decorated the stage and stalls for this purpose.

Police post in-charge of Jatepur VK Pandey along with constables Parmeshwar Mishra and Uma Shanker Singh reached there and removed all the stalls and the stage.

The party workers immediately informed the city unit president of the party Zia-ul-Islam who spoke with SSP Juneja. The SSP ordered circle officer, Cantonment, and others to reach the spot.

The stage was set up again on the CO’s direction and the meeting was held at the same venue. However, when the meeting concluded, a delegation of SP leaders, led by former MLC Devendra Pratap Singh, Zia-ul-Islam and others, reached SSP’s office and expressed anger over the high-handedness of police officials. They demanded stringent action against them. The police officials were suspended.

This was the second consecutive incident in the last two days when police officials had to face rough treatment by the residents and officials.

It should be noted that on Monday, former Cabinet minister Markandey Chand and BJP MP Yogi Adityanath lashed out at the district police for conducting a raid in search of Arun Chand, son of Markandey Chand, in connection with the abduction of a BDC member.
