The cops in the police custody so far—SOG constables Sushil Pachauri and Alok Singh and S-I Brijraj Yadav of Gorakhpur police—all have named Santosh Singh as the main conspirator.

In the course of interrogation, Yadav revealed he had contacted Santosh Singh during his posting at the CM security set-up. It was Santosh who was tipped off that the gold being carried by Allahabad-based traders. Since Santosh is no longer with the Lucknow police, he contacted SOG constable Pachauri offering him a major share in the booty.

Pachauri, who had recently purchased a Maruti van, agreed to use his vehicle in the operation. To make the operation foolproof, Pachauri lured Alok too and the latter accepted the offer.

Santosh later visited Brijraj Yadav and discussed about the gold consignment. Yadav’s two accomplices Neeraj and Subhash Yadav, who used to visit S-I Yadav frequently here, too agreed to execute the job. It was Santosh and Brijraj, who hatched the plan of intercepting the traders and picking them up on the pretext of interrogation. Pachauri and Alok, who were already working for SOG, assured Santosh that the rest would be handled by them.

On the D-day, the group of policemen executed the loot and the gold was kept with Santosh’s kin Ajit Singh at Hariharpur village in Behraich. Pachauri and Alok returned to their duty as usual the very next morning. The duo went missing no sooner they came to know about SSP calling entire SOG team for identity parade before the victims.

Sources revealed the police team camping in Behraich has strong clues about the whereabouts of S-I Santosh Singh. The police team have detained Santosh’s family members and raids were on to nab the S-I. The police have yet to recover remaining one kg gold while three kgs have already been found from the house of Santosh kin.
