Core groups to prevent child marriages

TO PREVENT child marriages, core groups in the district will be formed to register information about the marriages that will take place on the occasion of Akshay Tritiya on April 30. He said all the marriages, in community or individually, will have to be registered with anganwadi centre of the respective village. Woman and child development office will serve as nodal office for the purpose.

The organisers of community marriages will have to furnish information such as names of parents of willing couples, their age, addresses to concerned Sub-Divisional Officer. The organisers will be liable for action under prevention of Child Marriages Act if the age of bride was found below 18 years and that of groom below 21 years in any of marriages, Collector said.

The Collector said aganwadi workers of each revenue village have been directed to register detailed information about the marriages that will take place on Akshaya Tritiya.
