Court orders election in Amitabh's society
The deputy registrar of societies has been directed to election officer to conduct elections in Vithal Nagar Co-Operative in JVPD Scheme which houses the bungalow Pratiksha of Amitabh Bachchan.
Justice DY Chandrachud on Wednesday directed the deputy registrar to appoint an election officer and said an election to select the new managing committee should be held by December 31.
Other personalities residing in the society are Rakesh and Hrithik Roshan, Danny Denzongpa and Prakash Mehra.
Last year, an administrator was appointed by the deputy registrar on the ground that the society was being mismanaged and there were financial irregularities. The society had earlier approached the divisional registrar of societies challenging the appointment of the administrator which was rejected.
The society, through one of its members, Amarjit Singh Nagi challenged the appointment of the administrator, SM Mohite, alleging that he himself is now involved in various financial irregularities. Also, his tenure expired in June this year. As per the Co-operative Societies Act, the tenure of an administrator is six months, which can be extended for another three months.
