This is what the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court asked the state government on Tuesday, asking it to reply by Friday.

The body of an eight-year-old girl was found inside Gadkari’s car parked outside his Mahal residence on May 19.

Ashok and Vimal Thakre, the girl’s parents, have filed the petition. The Thakres suspected foul play, as there were bloodstains on her body.

There were police guards on duty at Gadkari’s residence. But none of them allegedly reported the death to the police.

They said it was shocking that the police did not seize the luxury car. Instead, the car was allowed to pick up Gadkari, who was returning from Mumbai by an evening flight. “The police did not take any steps to recover finger prints or other material evidence that may have been available in the car,” the petitioners said.

They alleged the Kotwali police registered only a case of accidental death, despite the post-mortem report suggesting the cause of death could be “homicidal”.
