The party would stage dharnas in the evening on that day in district headquarters and other selected centres, pledging solidarity with the Palestinian people facing agression from Israel, a party statement said.

The party expressed its protest at the UPA government's 'silence' over the development in West Asia, where Israeli forces mounted attacks in Gaza, resulting in large-scale casualties.

It pointed out that the Congress governments in India under Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi had not mantained diplomatic relations with Israel.

In sharp contrast, the present UPA Government was pursuing a policy of strengthening ties with Israel, ignoring the current round of attacks it mounted on the Palestinian people, the CPI-M statement added.
