"Extending support to BJD in the RS polls is a political compulsion for CPI," party's state General Secretary Dibakar Nayak announced in Bhere after a meeting of party leaders.

CPI, which has only one MLA in the 147-member Orissa Assembly, had seat adjustment with the BJD during the 2009 general elections. The party has one MP from the state.

Though the CPI has only one vote, it is crucial for friday's Rajya Sabha election as the BJD requires two more votes to ensure victory of its third candidate.
