Terming allegations of worsening law and order situation in the state by Opposition parties as baseless, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today claimed that the crime graph had gone downward in her tenure.

"During previous regimes criminal cases were hushed up after taking money and FIRs were not lodged. But the situation has changed now in my regime," Mayawati said.

A special campaign was carried out between June 22 to August 22 in 2007 after the BSP assumed power to lodge FIRs of crimes committed during the previous SP's stint in power, she said, alleging that FIRs were not registered while the opposition party was in power.

Now the performance of officers is not seen on the basis of FIRs registered in their respective areas but on parameters of ensuring justice to the people of Sarvasamaj, she said.

The SP has been making allegations that the state government has failed on all fronts, including that of law and order.
