"We will launch CCTNS project in Jammu and Kashmir for better investigation of cases of crimes and criminals in the state", a senior police officer told PTI.

The project aims at modernising police force and creating a nationwide network and state-of-art infrastructure to track crime and criminals.

It will be implemented at all 186 police stations spread over 22 districts in the state.

Efforts are on to digitise the crime data from 1996 to 2008 and 40 per cent of the work has already been completed.

At present the record is manually written in Urdu text and it is to be translated into English before being fed into the computer.
