The one thing that UK-based hairstylist Paul Bally points out is that most Indian women colour their hair all wrong. The blonde look doesn’t suit the Indian skin tones, rather he suggests hues like caramel, honey and copper that accentuate the Indian complexion. “I noticed that women now are moving away from plant based henna that gives you a permanent reddish tinge and that looks awful. Highlights may be chemical colours but they add spunk to your everyday hairdo,” says Bally.

The boy from Birmingham, on his first trip here, demonstrated hair extensions or enhancers from UK-based company Dome that offers 40 hues, ranging from fuchsia green to orange and flaming red. “These strands are chemical-free and hair-friendly and the best part is that they can be just braided into the hair. These trendy hair extensions don’t fade even in the harsh sun or while swimming,” informs Bally.

Bally, who first picked up a pair of scissors at the age of 15, honed his skills at the Splinters Mayfair in UK for two years before choosing to work freelance. “I didn’t want to be tied down by a nine-to-five routine. I thought it would bore me to hell and make me lose interest in what I love – hair styling,” says Bally.
Interestingly, Bally admits that the first and most important thing is a good cut and colour that enhances your skin tone. Secondly, a good shampoo and conditioner further improves your hair quality. “But Indian hair I discovered has more cuticles and a bit difficult to colour, so it makes it even more important to colour them correctly,” says Bally.

One place that Bally hopes to visit is Agra to see the Taj Mahal as he says, “How can anyone come to India and not see the monument of eternal love. But maybe I’ll make a one day trip because I’m exhausted with hectic travelling and visiting places like Amritsar, Bangalore, Ludhiana and soon Bangalore,” says Bally.

The latest rage in hair styling is not innovations in hair colouring but using enhancers to add not only movement to limp hair but also spunk. What’s more, after 46 weeks you can get them replaced. The idea is to make hair look great without any bleaching or lengthy procedures – all you have to do is choose the colour you want.

“You have the option to change the colour as and when you want or just match it with the dress you’ll be wearing for a party,” concludes Bally.
