It is manufacturing these at CIL's facility at Daman where it has a production capacity of 2,000 engines per annum.
To lower the manufacturing costs in India, they will also be exporting the engines to locations such as South America, Eastern Europe and South-East Asian nations.
"We will look at Cummins India as a potential supplier to take the product and sell to other parts of the world," Cummins Westport General Manager (Europe, Middle East and Africa) Greg Young said at the Auto Expo here.
Young said India not only provided cost benefits but also high-quality manufacturing and relatively cheaper components. The company is also supplying these new engines to Tata Motors, which has used them on the 'Starbus' currently running on Delhi roads.
CIL vice president Arun Ramachandran said that the local manufacturing of the BGI natural gas engines in Inda enables us to offer our markets innovative, state of the art technology at a very competitive cost.
