Customs and excise collections up 17 pc in H1

Rs 93,069 crore is collected by way central customs and excise duties during April-September and another Rs 12,412 in service taxes.

Centre's customs and excise duties collections rose by 17 per cent at Rs 93,069 crore in the first half of this fiscal while service tax kitty shot up by 65 per cent to Rs 12,412 crore during April-August.

The corresponding figures for customs and excise were Rs 79,289 crore and Rs 7,527 crore in the previous fiscal.

The customs and excise duty collection in September 2006 grew by 18 per cent at 17,102 crore while service tax mobilisation was up by 60 per cent at Rs 2,563 crore in August, an official release said.
