Democracy does not give anyone the right to deprive others of their democratic rights. The Gujjars are guilty of abuse of democratic rights. Before the government goes any further in its discussions with the Gujjar community, it must make it clear that the Gujjars have to pay for the damage caused to public and private property and the hardship that people have had to go through. This will send a message that violence will not achieve anyone’s objectives.
