Dastak-2006 begins today

The event will be kicked off with a formal inauguration by the AU Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajen Harshe on August 18 and will also witness the first ever alumni meet of the Centre on August 20.
Dastak-2006 will feature a photo exhibition, display of documentaries and news bulletins prepared by the Centre's students besides a seminar that will be attended by seasoned journalists and intellectuals from various fields.
"The teachers and the students have really worked hard to make the event special. It will be inaugurated by Prof Harshe at 11.30 am on Friday. The inaugural function will be presided over by senior journalist Shashi Shekhar and will have another senior journalist Punya Prasoon Bajpai as special guest," said Prof GK Rai, Director of AU's Institute of Professional Studies under which the Centre Of Photo Journalism and Visual Communication functions.
Prof Rai said that on August 19, a seminar on 'Media: Moving away from people and closer to market' would be organised. "The seminar will start at 11.30 am and will have well known critic Prof Rajendra Kumar presiding over it. Senior journalists, including Gopal Ranjan, Arindam Rai, Surendra Singh, Harishankar Misra, Pramod Bharadwaj and Mukul Mishra, will also participate in it," he added.
Prof Rai said that Centre Of Photo Journalism and Visual Communication's first alumni meet would take place on August 20 at 3 pm. "We have invited all our former students, especially those working with various media organisations all over the country. "Though the closing ceremony of Dastak-2006 will take place at 3 pm on August 21, every day between 12 pm to 4 pm from the start of the event, news bulletins, ad films and documentaries prepared by our students will be displayed. An AIDS awareness film, a short film 'Nayi Subah' and various documentaries right from showcasing the tribals of Sonebhadra, changing face of Allahabad and the mosques of Jaunpur are just some of the visual treats that will be in store for the visitors during Dastak-2006," Prof Rai added.
He said that the best photographs snapped by the students would also be put up in the exhibition planned during the annual function. The exhibition will be open from 11 am to 6 pm on all the four days.
